remove icloud from ipad2

About a year ago my business bought an ipad2 and another employee set up the icloud account under his own account.

Fast forward to now and he no longer works here and I am tasked to remove his icloud account. I already restored and updated using the latest ios version. However its still activated to his account. He says he doesnt remember.

How can I remove his icloud account and put on the store one I created?

iPad 2, iOS 8.1.2

Hello snarf77,

From what you describe it sounds like Activation Lock is preventing you from setup the device with another iCloud account but the previous employee doesn't remember the password for the account. The person should reset the password for the account so that it the account can be removed and this article will help them do that.

iCloud: Change your iCloud password

Change your iCloud (Apple ID) password

  1. Go to the My Apple ID website (appleid.apple.com) and follow the instructions to reset your Apple ID password.

For more information, see the Apple Support article Apple ID: Changing your password.

  2. After changing your iCloud password, make sure you update it on all your devices and in any email apps you use to get your iCloud email.

    • On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Go to Settings > iCloud, then tap your iCloud account.

    • On a Mac: Open iCloud preferences.

    • On a Windows computer: Open iCloud for Windows.

    • In your email apps: Check the help provided for the email apps you’re using.

If you set up iCloud on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, make sure to set up a passcode lock on your device for added security. (Go to Settings > Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode. If your device has iOS 5 or iOS 6, go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock.)
