Q: iTunes 12 will not recognize a iPod video 30G. Why?

iTunes version 12.0.1
iPod Video 30g (5th gen)

Issue: iTunes will not recognize the iPod. Desktop still does. Double checked that iTunes will still recognize a device (iPhone 5). iTunes will still sync or recognize that device.

Steps taken:  -Re-updated iTunes - no improvement
                      -Reset iPod - no change.
-waited until battery was fully charged - No change
-double checked update to OS - no updates available
-checked firmware of iPod - 1.3

I'll keep it short and sweet: Has iTunes dropped support of all non-iOS iPods since version 12?

iPod classic, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

I have the same problem, but I refuse to restore my iPod 60GB, because works well, I made all the checks and everything was perfect.

I had the same problem synchronizing my iPod to my MacBook Pro. Therefore, I made three basic changes and everything works perfectly.

May be this will help you:

    1. Reset the ipod. (Obviously)

    2. Use the USB, which is nearer the Power Supply.

    3. And believed or not, I change my cable to the original Apple Cable. May be it sounds crazy, but the original Apple Cable is shorter than many generic cables, and obviously the cable shield is design for Apple purposes. Those long cables are great if the use will be referred only to the charge of the device (Low frequency), but I'm not sure if the long cable avoids the considerations due high frequency data transfers. With my long generic  cable, my iPod sync disconnects always in the middle of the transfer and the next time I sync, iTunes shows the legend of restore it.
