Seriously, how much of a stupid iinconvenience is this? Why should I require a connection to play the videos I've recorded on my phone?

And to clarify further, when I click on a video, the annoying loading wheel spears. When my internet is turned on, it works. When I turn it off, the video wont play.
Only1al has it right. you have your photos and videos storing directly to iCloud. So you would be able to view your photos from the device you used Unless you connect to wifi.
I have the same problem on my iPhone 6, plus I can't edit old pictures, if I am not connected. I want to know whats the point recording videos and taking pictures if I can't even watch them or edit them! I don't have access to internet always and it's really frustrating when you find out you can't watch video because you are not connected. Please can anyone tell me the solution for this, except to be connected 24/7 what is impossible or to stop storing videos and photos to iCloud.

Go to Settings - Photos and Camera. If Optimizw iPhone Storage is ticked then all your photos and videos are stored in iCloud and have to be downloaded for playing. If you don't want that, tick Download and Keep Originals. Everything is working exactly as was designed to. It's up to you to choose the settings which suit you.
i was having this same problem and i restarted my phone, left it off for about 3 minutes and when i turned it back on all the videos played perfectly fine.
It could be because iPhone uploads photo and video to iCloud and doesn't keep originals.
Go to your iCloud Photo settings and switch off Optimise iPhone Storage. Choose setting Download and Keep Originals.

There is a way to play some videos offline. But you can't with Youtube, as it violates youtube terms of use. What other videos do you want to play offline?
even when this is ticked i cant watch my videos without wifi, do i have to download them all or something and how would i do this?
