5GB Ram in Macbook Late 09'

Hi I have a late 2009 macbook with 2gb of ram. 1gb in each slot and i was wondering if i could buy 4gb and put it in one spot because i know it can support 8gb and apple dosnt offically support 8gb but many people have done it. i dont have much money to buy the ram all at once so thats why i was wondering if i could use 5gb.

Thanks! -Troy

It' ok to ask questions, it's always best to be sure of what you're doing. If your macbook is the late 2009 unibody model the link I posted is the correct ram. You can open System Profiler by clicking the Apple menu and selecting about this Mac, then click on the memory tab, it will tell you exactly what you have installed now. OWC has excellent customer service I'd recommend rather than ordering online call them and speak with their staff, they'll walk you through exactly what you need.
