M-Audio Fast Track USB interface not compatible with Logic Pro X and Yosemite

Hello All!

I've been trying to simply record some guitar and vocal tracks onto the latest version of Logic Pro X. It worked before I downloaded the update of Yosemite, however now, I can't find a solution to my problem. I've tried everything! Installed new drivers onto the M-Audio and even tried to search for a later update of Yosemite. I have read a few things online about how Yosemite doesn't accept 3rd party drivers. So any USB plugged in to the macbook/mac that isn't mac based it doesn't accept.

Please can someone help me solve his issue!

Thankyou!

Felix

I know many music professionals that would disagree with that assessment of the Logic/Yosemite combination. All you have to do is check this and other board to see users (with compatible hardware) having problems with reduced track count, (both audio & VI), CPU spikes, sluggish performance with high track count, unable to open previous projects, constant overload messages...etc. It may get better in the future but for now it's not happening.. If you're happy, great, but I'm not going to advise upgrading the OS until I see proof of greater stability and performance. I think that will take a Logic upgrade as the OS is outpacing the application.

I don't know any! It's not just on these boards, take a look at some of the other Logic boards, realistically the Yosemite/Logic combination is not ready for professional use, especially compared to previous setups.

A perfect example from this board just came up.

logic pro X CPU is off the chart since Yosemite

You'll need to verify with the manufacturer that it is in fact Yosemite compatible, or that they have updated drives coming out soon. And yes, Yosemite accepts 3rd party drivers, I've installed several of them.

That said, I checked, and this is an out of production product. M-Audio's site doesn't list it. It seems to have been repackaged as the Avid Fast Track Solo. I'd stay away from Avid branded drivers. They killed my Euphonix control surfaces.

So, the issue is, can this device be used with Yosemite at all? HHHmmm... will need to find someone who has one. Be sure your OS X and LPX are updated to the most current versions to start.

Downgrade your OS to 10.9.x

Yosemite (10.10.x) is causing a lot of issues for a lot of people and BenB is spot on with their driver info. M-Audio (or Avid, as the line has been split) are particularly bad when it comes to drivers and there's no excuse. Apple run a decent developers program for manufacturers for this exact reason.

It's not your fault but……. go back an OS if you want it to work properly.

Note:

M-Audio no longer sell/support the Fast Track as they sold that product range off to Avid....

Avid recently released new drivers for some of the Fast Track range

If your model not listed there.. then there isn't likely to be support for Yosemite (or any later OS X versions for that matter) as it will be considered 'End of Line"

MANY of us are running Yosemite and LPX latest versions just fine. I'd never go back. Yes, make sure your older hardware is compatible, but that applies to any upgrade, ever. And we use a ton of NI stuff, so we really do tax our systems badly. They hold up as well as Logic ever did.

But that interface is dated, and the manufacturer sold it off, not made anymore, means drivers will never be updated again, that's the reality of hardware. There are some very inexpensive ones out there, USB2 and 3, that are fantastic. If you can afford it, get a more recent I/O.

Always verify your system's third party hard/software before updating an app or OS, always.

+1 Pancenter....

On my various testbed systems here.. (along with much feedback from my clients..) currently Yosemite and LPX is a 'no go' no matter what external hardware you run it on.. nor what devices you use with it...

I did finally manage to get my FW Ultralites, along with a FW 2i2 and FW Saffire 24 DSP to work under Yosemite using the latest drivers but the overall performance of LPX was pretty dreadful under Yosemite (compared to the same performance with the same hardware under Mavericks...) and Logic misbehaved with CoreAudio in general blipping and squawking away to it's heart's content on frequent occasions when the system was being pushed hard.

Even on a top of the line 2014 Mac Pro, Logic Pro X struggled to reach anything near the performance expected and seen under earlier OS X versions.... with the same Hardware/Devices combination

Using the Logic Multicore Benchmark test.. under LP9.. truly showed how much performance had dropped off under Yosemite compared to previous configurations... and compared to LP9's performance under Snow Leopard, it's really become a sad joke to be truthful.....

I know many, many of us who are running things just fine.

I have to be really honest with you Ben and say... Where are you getting that idea from because it simply isn't so.....

I have a quite large client list of Logic users from all over the world... and of those that have attempted to use Logic Pro X and Yosemite together... over 80% have had to revert back to a previous configuration because of performance and/or stability related issues...

I personally, have on test here at the studios... 7 different Macs ranging from 2010 Mac Mini i7 Servers to 2011 32GB 3.4Ghz iMacs.. to a maxed out 2013 i7 MBP to a top of the line 2014 Mac Pro and all have demonstrated issues regarding performance and stability with LPX and 10.10.x using a variety of different Audio/Midi interfaces, all of which have supposedly 10.10 compatible drivers... and all of which have no such issues running LPX under Mavericks...

Just a quick scan across the various forums.. indicates that very few people are successfully running LPX under Yosemite without performance problems.... so that's why I am asking where you are seeing 'many many people" because I am just not seeing that myself...

Cheers..

Nigel
