I inherited an older MacPro5,1 which has a RAID card in it, but it's complaining that the RAID battery is dead. I don't want to RAID the drives in it anyway, but I'm not sure how to proceed at this point. Do I just power the machine down, remove the RAID card, then the machine will pick it up as 4 individual drives the next time it boots?
On a 2009 and later RAID card, what you describe is what SHOULD happen.
But proceeding without a trusted Backup is a serious mistake. Suppose it does not work for some obscure reason.
Make a Backup first before you do anything. Then proceed with confidence.
Thanks. I think my RAID card is 2009 or later, as the date the system config says it was installed was in 2010, and has hardware version 2.0, but it never really says which card it is, or I just don't know how to tell.
