My password to change applications on my mac mini is not working?

I have a mac mini and I am trying to upgrade my flash player, the cpu asks for my password but says it is incorrect when i enter it. The cpu is basically useless. I have tried to do a system restore using the "command" and "R" keys but it never works, always right back to my desktop.
