Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

How do I know if someone sent me a picture message without always having to have LTE on?

It's frustrating when I'm having a conversation with somebody and suddenly they stop talking. It's even more frustrating when I find out that they didn't stop talking, they just sent me a picture. Unfortunately, because I obviously don't want to have to keep LTE on all the time, I have no way of knowing when someone sends me a picture. Is there any way for me to get some sort of notification without using cellular data? I would just like to be able to know that there is something there.

iPhone 6, iOS 8.1.2

You will not receive MMS (picture) messages unless you have cellular data turned on. You're phone won't have any way of knowing that they have been sent to you until you turn data back on. If the other party is using an iPhone, you will be able to receive pictures if you're connected to WiFi and both of you are using iMessage.

You may need to let people with whom you converse frequently that the should not send you pictures.
