Unable to open Logix.zip file from Dropbox

All, anyone come across this error popup window using Yosemite and LPX on a MAcbook pro retina laptop:

"Unable to expand [file name.logicx.zip] into Desktop. (Error 17-File exists.)"

When I right-click the downloaded zip it gives the option of "open with Zip archive", but then this error comes up.

Anyone know about this? Thanks in advance!

Hey! So, I found that unzipping the file manually via Terminal proved successful!

  1. Do a spotlight search for "Terminal" and have your .ZIP file ready in a Finder window nearby.
  2. Copy this line

    unzip -d ~/desktop -a

into the Terminal window after the

    $

placed at the end of your username.
  3. Now, drag your .ZIP file into the Terminal window. This will automatically place the file path for you.
  4. Hit ENTER
  5. Quit Terminal, and hit Terminate
  6. Your unzipped Logic file should be on your desktop!

Hopefully either Apple or Dropbox can figure out what's going on here and put out a patch to fix this. I've seen the issue on Dropbox forums, too.

Who uploaded it to dropbox and what did they use to zip the file...?

Ask them as some archives using certain zip programs cannot be unzipped using zip archive these days..

if you cannot ask them because you don't know who they are.. then don't try to unzip.... You never know exactly what might be in there or even if it is a valid zip anyhow...

BenB,

There is a problem with using the built in decompressor in OS X with certain zips files that were created by other 3rd party compressors Ive found.. Hence my recommendation to try Stuffit Expander if the built in on keeps failing......

I suspect the real issue is duplicate files in the archive however, but I was trying to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak 🙂

Cheers..
