HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Classes/Quicktime.Quictime/CLSID

Okay, I'm not exactly new at this, but I'm also not a
pro. I could use some step by step instructions. But
before that, let me just say, I have searched the
previous threads on this topic, and nothing has
worked

I have gone into regedit and added permissions to the
file name. Unfortunately, even though I am an
administrator, I don't have enough permissions to add
permissions to
HKEYLOCALMACHINE/Software/Classes/Quicktime.Quict
ime/CLSID. When I attempt to apply permissions to
the file, I get this message.

Unable to save permission changes on
Quicktime.Quicktime.
Access is denied.

I've not only tried just adding "everyone" to the
permissions, I have single-handedly added all of my
users that have permissions to other files.


If somebody could give me step by step instructions
on what to do next, I would be very grateful.

I have the same problem... tried all the possible fixes on the apple sitetrouble shooting Itunes (5 pages)... did not fix problem... tried system mecahinc register cleaner...
did not fix problem... next option is to delete all registry keys that have quicktime infront of them... of course after backing up registry... I am little aprehensive in doing this....

Can't get permission as it won't allow me to OK changes made...have tried deleting...

Brand new IPOD video and can't use it as I can't even use Itunes with it as IPOD won't "talk" to Itunes 6. When we tried to update, we weren't able to do that.

If this is a road someone else has been on...I would so appreciate some direction.

I have the exact same problem, and I have done everything I can think of. I even installed Quicktime 2.0, because before I had registry problems I had activeX control problems, so I thought maybe they were related and an older version would replace fundamental files, but no. I've downloaded a registry cleaner, installation cleaner-- and nothing helps. I've looked at other forums, and a LOT of people have this problem-- I can't believe there isn't a solution on the FAQ's. I've uninstalled and tried to reinstall a dozen times and it's like these files are just locked in the registry, and I can't even delete them.
I even took my laptop to my schools tech services, and even they couldn't fix it. Do Apple techs read these things and offer advice? How does this work? I'm sorry-- I know your frustration. I don't even have itunes anymore because I had to uninstall it in order to reinstall, and one of my classes is a podcast. I don't know what to do either. Someone HAS to have found a way around this, right?

After months of toil, this worked. I had run across this solution before, but for some reason I didn't realize that once the problem file was open, I had to do the same change ownership/add permissions thing to the CLSID and CARVE subfiles too in order to delete the entire folder. Kevinduh, it was tedious (I had to do it to like 20 different folders) and took a little while but it worked after all else had failed; and then installed perfectly. Well, actually, now my laptop logon screen won't come up-- but I think that's a different problem.
Anyway, this worked for my problem, which was identical to yours. Give it a shot and good luck.

I've wasted the better part of my morning working on trying to get QT to load.

I've tried the suggestions and nothing is working. When I try to set permissions I get a denied message back.

If by chance the crack Apple software developers read these posts, would you kindly post a fix to this very annoying issue. Thx.

i had the same problem and figured it out just a minute ago go to quicktime.com click download in middle of page after page loads look on the left and download the one on the bottom then after downloading you will need to restart then after that you click on itunes and see if it works let me kno if it does

I couldn't get it to work for the longest time either. The step I was missing was going into "advanced" and clicking on the "owner" tab, and selecting "administrators" to define the owner, then "apply", then doing the permissions changes.
I'd do that, then click "delete" but I'd get another error. What I didn't realize was that I had OPENED the file, but I couldn't delete it until I had done the same thing for all of the sub-keys IN the file before it can be deleted. Chech and make sure you have an owner listed.

cmd: regedit
right click the problem file
"permissions"
click "advanced"
then click the "owner" tab.
There will be a list (hopefully)and choose yourself, administrators, or whichever you're logged on as.
always click apply before you click ok.

you should get into your subkeys then, and try doing the same for them, and then see if you can delete the files.

I spent months on this problem and it sucked. This owner thing, after all else, is what finally worked for me.

Thank You Idlewildeone! I have been struggling for months and was about to reformat my computer following advise from Apple support. For anyone else, I progressively changed the privileges and deleted the registry keys until it installed successfully...What a RELIEF!

I am having the same problem.. the full error message is:

could not open key;
HKEY LOCALMACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp\CLSID.
Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.


I have honestly tried everything that everyone has said and its not working!! If anyone...anyone can help shed some light on this ipod storm of terror.. I would be very grateful
