If you think another phone manufacturer is going to fix a phone that is several years out of warranty, well....good luck with that.

And since Apple still services the original iPhone, regardless of how far out of warranty it is, for between $29 to $149, I'd say that is proof that they still provide support. I'm wondering if SSKYWALKER mean 'free' support, or maybe he just didn't know what he was talking about at all.

Well, its not about warranty. Its about Apple screwing the phone up and blaming users. I was told it was my fault just because i ran an upgrade Apple provided to fix bugs. I dont see any reason why Apple should blame users claiming they screwed something up. I was asked if the phone was jail-broken or if i had dropped it in water. I have read about a lot of people who have the same issue after upgrading their IOS. Would have been easier to tell 4S users not to upgrade rather than screwing up their phone

Buy a new one? Then either you misunderstood or there is something about your device that voided the out-of-warranty option.

Click Here, just change country to your own. It does appear that only the ORIGINAL iPhone is no longer serviceable in the United Kingdom.

Out-of-Warranty Service

If you own an iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service but is eligible for out-of-warranty (OOW) service, Apple will service your iPhone for the out-of-warranty service fee listed below.

Model Out-of-warranty service fee

The operating system didn't cause these problems. Your iPhone 4S had some form of defect.

If it was the iOS, then ALL iPhone 4S units would have the same problem.

It's a hardware issue not a software issue.

And you should be able to replace it for £166.44. That's not the price of a new iPhone, so you aren't being asked to buy a new iPhone.

If that option isn't available, then either you misunderstood what they said, they forgot to mention it, or your device has something so wrong with it that it is not covered at all, due to extensive damage or unauthorized modifications.

I am with you on this. While I can't quite remember if it was after an update or not, it doesn't really matter. For the price of these things, they should have a longer shelf life. My wife's internal speaker went just 2 months out of warranty on her 4s. Now mine has lost it's wifi. I tried the freezer trick before and no dice. I haven't tried the hair dryer and then freezer method though. As an engineer I can almost understand the possibility of "update making it heat up more" and causing a defected wifi to malfunction. Extreme heat will do this to motherboards for computers as well whereas solder joints become lose. Nevertheless, defect is a defect and should be repaired at no cost to the customer whether warranty or not. Technically there should be a recall if there are x amount of them.

Mine has not had wifi in like 4 months now. I did happen to take it to the AT&T store just to see what they had to say and they said the wifi card has to be replaced. This is probably true since these fixes are usually temporary and end up repeating same thing again while still no guarantee it will work again. It's just plain bad business for such an expensive item to malfunction like that and for so many people. I could understand if it only happens to a few, but a simple search can plainly tell you otherwise. And I might add that not everyone got theirs through contract of their provider and paid for the phone outright as I did for two of them. I will try the hair dryer then freezer method, but I don't have high hopes and will probably find myself replacing the wifi adapter myself just as I had to replace my wife's internal speaker which by the way had like 160,000 posts about it.

My iPhone 4s also suffers from the the much discussed WiFi loss issue. I've tried all the 'fixes' on these pages. Some work some don't. The fault keeps re-occuring.

I would like to thank you for reproducing the Apple Service Cost table here. But it should be pointed out that this is their 'service fee', not a repair fee. You could still have broken phone and be £100+ out of pocket !! The Apple Service Centre will not tell you up front whether they can fix this fault. But they will take your money.

Hi, I am another one with a greyed Wifi problem after the ios upgrade. Its so funny when people blames it on the hardware and says the IOS cannot damage the hardware. Please dont take everyone as idiots. The software CAN damage the hardware in many ways. Especially the software can do a lot of calculations at a greater speed which cannot be handled by the hardware thus heating up the chip causing damage. This is called a virus or a BUG in the programming terms. When so many users complaint the same issue, Apple should have the common sense to understand that the people are not complete idiots and takes anything for granted. Accept it and try to fix the bug and if its not possible, least is apologize instead of raking non sense comments.

Magic does happen!

I had this problem since February (4 months ago) and after a lot of work, I decided that there is some hardware fault I have to live with. OK, I still have a phone that works, somewhat. - Today, the phone suddenly alerts me to the existence of a known wifi network and asks to connect! It works!

I no explanation for this. The phone was last connected to the Mac, where it could load system updates, 2 days ago. It's now on iOS 8.3 - but that was distributed in April. My problems had started with 8.1.

Silent fix?
