Mountain Lion on Mac Pro 1.1 2006?

I'm interested in running Mountain Lion on my 2006 Mac Pro. I know I'll have to upgrade my NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB video card to a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB. Can anyone give me the best and easiest way?


Processor 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon

Memory 13 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB

Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 13GB RAM with dual monitors,

Thanks Hatter I'll read up on all that for sure.


So I don't need to change my Video card? I had heard that using the original video card for ML would produce awful graphics after this upgrade. At this point I'd just like to go to ML and maybe Mavericks.


Also can I avoid the whole 'extra download drive thing by ordering the original ML disks?

You are long past due to get rid of the GPU you have, and those threads should help with that.


Lion and above don't have discs, only download using your Apple ID from AppStore.


Make a Bootable Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Installer from a USB …


netkas.org forum might help with graphic card questions though I think MacRumors - and the other sites that deal with this subject as to just how to install ML - and you will need another Mac most likely to obtain OS X under your ID.
