Stuck on step 2 of 4 whilst backing up device on computer?

When I back it up, the first couple minutes are okay; step one goes through just fine and the loading bar goes about 1/2 of the way on step two. However, it will stand there and is still even though it has been about 25 minutes. Is this supposed to take this long? I have checked the article about problems backing up or restoring, but none of the concerning problems there are related to this situation. I have plugged and unplugged my USB cord, and I do not wish to restore my device. Any solutions?
