Had a bunch of old pictures from photo albums converted to digital. When loading them on to my mac they all look monochrome.
Brought the CD back to the store thinking they screwed up, however they loaded it up on both a PC and Mac just fine. Any idea what is causing this?
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
What application are you using to view the images, and what is the file type?
The images have inverted colours, the highlights are blocked up and clipped (over exposed).
By the way the dug is a bit wee for the celtic jersey!
What app are you using to view these image files? Have you tried opening them with Preview? If you do go to the Inspector pane
and check to see what color profile it has:
Also what color profile is your display calibrated to? You can find out in the System/Displays preference pane.
Tried preview, iPhoto and a canon app. All do the same thing. They are JPEG file format. And the dug is a Tim lol
What system and iPhoto version are you using? Is the example that you posted the actual image file or a screenshot of it? If a screenshot post the original file so we can test it.
Using iPhoto 9.2.3 and this is one of the actual images of 650 images on a disc that all look the same. Like I said, I brought the CD back to Staples and they inserted it into a PC and the images came up perfect. I then asked if it might be a mac problem, so he tested it on a mac and they were fine. I'm puzzled.
It indicates a colour model CMYX and there is nothing listed beside Coloursync profile.
iPhoto supports RGB. It's what cameras shoot in. Try assign an sRGB profile to one (In Preview: Tools Menu -> Assign Profile) and see who that works.
That is your problem - for iphoto you must have an RGB profile - sRGB is the preferred profile - iphoto is built for digital cameras and they use RGB

When doing that to the photo it will not allow me to select another profile. It just shows one selection "Generic CMYK profile"
Where is the file you are trying that on?
You can't write to a file burned on a CD.
Copy it to the desktop and then try.

Well your issue is that the images are scanned in CYMK - though I have no idea why they would do that. Four part separation is the stuff of high-end professional printing.
You can change them to RGB using the color sync utility -- tried this out - used photoshop to convert a copy of a jpeg to CYMK and saved it.
Imported it into IPHOTO - color was way off (although desktop icon was okay) -- used color synch utility to convert the desktop picture to ColorMatch RGB - imported that into IPHOTO - color was fine.
You may want to go back to Staples and see if they can mass convert to RGB for free - if not -- there may be a batch way to do it with color sync utility - never did the conversion before as I would do that within photoshop anyway.
