Pictures look monochrome

Had a bunch of old pictures from photo albums converted to digital. When loading them on to my mac they all look monochrome.User uploaded file

Brought the CD back to the store thinking they screwed up, however they loaded it up on both a PC and Mac just fine. Any idea what is causing this?

You might give this a try on a few of the image files:

1 - copy them from the CD to a folder on the Desktop.

2 - go to Toad's Cellar and download "Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile.zip"

3 - unzip the package and place the Automator workflow app on the Desktop.

4 - open the folder and drag the image files onto the app. (Note: due to the Sandboxing/Gatekeeper aspect of OS X you will have to authorize using the application.) Or you can create your own Automator workflow app:

5 - when the conversion is completed check one of the photos with Preview to confirm that the sRGB profile has been embedded.

6 - import the folder into iPhoto and see if there's any improvement.

Your post implies that you are still on snow leopard so ILIFE 08 or 09?

You can use Preview to test if changing color sync profile will change how the picture appears. (view soft proof profile) (never knew you could do this until I your post problem)

Also - contact or go back to staples store to find out what level software is on the mac they tested the CD on including ILIFE(Iphoto) level.

IPHOTO 09 was not as compatible with photoshop as 08 as I had some black and white pictures loaded into 08 fine (monochrome profile) - when I loaded some into 09 they were weird and had to change them to RGB profile within photoshop before importing again.

I think later versions of IPHOTO are suppose to be more photoshop compatible - so those may be accepting the CYMK profile with no problem.

I use RGB in Photoshop - because you have more options adjusting color and it works.
