universal dock is not working for ipod classic (80 GB)

I haven't used universal dock for long time, and recently i need to use dock. But my ipod classic (80GB) is not working perfectly. (strange thing is my old ipod min (4GB) is perfectly working with universal dock.

Ipod mini (4gb) is perfectly working with universal dock - can charge, forward/rewind and volume up/down via remote/universal dock.

But for ipod classic (80GB), can't be charged, i can't play forward and rewind. (I tried many times to pairing) funny thing is I just control volume with remote/dock. (but controlling volume, there's no change in ipod display screen. i can notice volume is change just with my ear 🙂 )

I remember universal dock is working well with my classic when i was bought dock first time. (my memories not perfect...)

Anybody can help me??

iPod classic, Windows 7

Hi Gusto_ha,

Welcome to the Support Communities! It appears that the Dock adapter is different for the 80 GB iPod classic than the 4 GB iPod. Are you using the correct adapter for your iPod classic? See rows 9 & 10 in the resource below. Are you able to connect your iPod classic directly to the USB port of your computer?

The Apple Universal Dock is the ultimate iPod or iPhone docking solution. Any iPod with a dock connector and dock adapter or iPhone can fit into a single Universal Dock through the use of interchangeable inserts called Dock Adapters.

This article has been archived and is no longer updated by Apple.

The Apple Universal Dock includes five Dock Adapters that fit iPhone 4 and 4S, iPhone 3G and 3GS, iPod touch (2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations), and iPod nano 5th generation. Dock adapters for other iPhone or iPod models are sold separately. For a complete list of products that can be docked with the Apple Universal Dock, see the table below.

Note: Depending on when your Apple Universal Dock was purchased, the types of dock adapters included with it may vary.

The Apple Universal Dock also includes an Apple Remote.

You simply insert the Dock Adapter that fits your particular iPod or iPhone model, then plug in your iPod or iPhone. If a dock adapter for your iPod or iPhone model isn’t included with your Universal Dock, you can purchase one at the Apple Online Store.

Important: iPod shuffle, iPod (scroll wheel), iPod (touch wheel), and iPod nano (6th generation) are incompatible with the Apple Universal Dock since these iPod models do not have a dock connector and dock adapter. If you're not sure which iPod model you have, click here. For iPod models with a dock connector, Apple recommends updating to the latest iPod software with the current version of iTunes, available for free download at support.apple.com/downloads/.

For more information on how to use the Apple Universal Dock, see the Using Apple Universal Dock guide.

I had same problem. I'm using an Ipod Classic 160Gb gen 7 (late 2009) and Apple Universal Dock MC746LL/A. I connected both of it each other without dock adapter MA125/A. It's just only works with volume up and down but the ipod screen doesn't appear the volume icon, the volume change when click on remote and can hear by ear. I know I'm not using dock adapter but I watched this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCZsUkF73Go&index=23&list=WL ) on youtube It's work without adapter. I need your help If you know how to fix it please let me know. Thanks!
