My lock screen camera shortcut stopped working

Hi i noticed recently that my camera shortcut from the lock screen no longer works :-(. When i start dragging the screen upwards to reveal the camera i can see the camera up underneath but the moment i finish the camera vanishes and i get a blank screen. Any ideas?

I am using an iPhone 4S and ios8
