Why "Download Error. Tap to Retry." only Occurs in iOS Podcast app?

Hi,

I've recently discovered problems downloading my podcast using the 'Podcasts' app in iOS. I consistently get the same error. That is, "Download error. Tap to Retry". The podcast feed I give to iTunes is generated by a WordPress plugged-in named 'podPress'. The feed is good from iTunes software on PCs running Windows, or OSX, across various versions. Instant play works, and subscription downloads work, but it doesn't work in the Podcast app in iOS devices (at least versions 7 and 8.)

The only thing I can imagine is an XML formatting issue, but I don't know where to looks.

I am not sure if this is related, but when I use the 'Feed Validator' linked to from the WordPress plug-in 'podPress', then I get one warning about a self reference. I cannot verify whether this is related to my problem, nor can I figure out how to resolve the warning.

I noticed that two other people have 'ticked' the option "I have this question too." Maybe one of you has tried this, with the same or different results?

...and, before you ask, Yes; that is the absolute path to the link referred to in the warning message, and consequently the reason I can't figure out has to resolve the message.

From time to time I have the same problem on my iPhone 4 with iOS 7.2.1.

Mostly after several retries the download succeeds. Like today with the latest TWiT episode.

But the lastest episode of John Gruber's The Talk Show still gives me this "Download error. Tap to Retry".

I assumed that maybe there is not enough space on my iPhone and I deleted some apps and old podcast episodes. But this did not help.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but as it is the most recent thread:

I can't download anything throught the Podcasts app, even though I can update the podcast feeds within the app and also download things with Safari. (I am online, is what I'm saying). The App gets stuck on "Download vorbereiten..." (="prepare download" aka Waiting for Download).

How can this be fixed? Reboots, WLAN on/off did not make a difference. Thanks.

I was having the same problem. My problem was that I had changed my iTunes password in iTunes, but had not updated on my iPhone. Once I updated by iPhone iTunes password, everything worked fine again.

Hi Georg,

I am afraid that is a different issue then mine. I am referencing this problem across multiple iPhones running iOS7 and iOS8. I've got some iOS6 devices that I'll try that next.

Im having the same problem with my IOS8 iPhone. It was downloading podcasts for me last Friday, Jan. 16. Podcasts are downloading on my iPod 4 running ios6 without any problems.
