My mac mini will not connect to my Dell Monitor

I am using the VGA port (D-Sub Blue) on a Dell G2410. I purchased an HD to VGA adapter and I have a Mac Mini. The monitor only goes into sleep mode and does not detect my computer ever.

I can use my mac mini on a TV when its HDMI to HDMI and I am not using VGA or adapter but anything with adapter does not work. After spending nearly 1200 I called Apple for help and was told I need to spend another $140 for a years subscription to get help.

Any help would be so appreciated!!

What is a " HD to VGA adapter "?

If you mean HDMI to VGA adopter then yo need a converter, not a simple adopter since yoo have to convert the digital HDMI signal to an anologue VGA signzal. Here are two such converters

Buy a Mini Display Port (Thunderbolt) to VGA Adaptor from the online Mac Store or Apple retail store: Thunderbolt to VGA Adaptor
