Battery Drain in Standby Mode

So my battery life has been draining like crazy on my 5c with IOS 8.1.2. It seems to get worse with each update. I always update in the hopes that the battery life will get better, but it always gets worse. I tried all the tips on the internet (turning off location services, background app refresh, etc.

I did a little calculation and found out that my phone drains about 3% in one hour while in standby mode. That means that it will drain 48% in a 16 hour day! It used to never or barely drain when it was in standby mode.

Anybody have a similar problem or know some way to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Ryan

I have an IPhone 7plus and i Wish I lost 3% an hour, my phone loses 1% every 2 minutes, I can't live without a power bank! I charge my phone all day, and when I'm out I barely use it so that if I need something I have the battery to contact someone.. I've tried everything that apple says in order to fix it but I haven't seen a difference sadly.. I think I'm just going to get a new one or change my phones battery because this is so tiring..

Make a backup. Restore as new. Test the issue again. Here's a way to test your battery 'issue' without any bias:

• First, charge up the device to 100%. To enable the percentage indicator, go to Settings > General > Usage, and turn on Battery Percentage.

• Once the device is charged to 100%, make sure to close out all Apps that are running on the device. In iOS 7/8, you close out running apps by double-tapping the Home Button, and then swiping your finger up across the preview screen of each app to move it off the top of the screen.

• Then, turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular data. Settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi: OFF, Settings > Bluetooth > Bluetooth: OFF, & Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data: OFF. This will not prevent you from receiving any phone calls.

• Go back to the Home Screen, and take a screenshot. Press both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together briefly, and you will see the screen flash white for a split-second, and an image will be saved to your Photo App Camera Roll.

• Disconnect the iPhone from the charger, and lock the screen so it is dark.

• Let the iPhone sit in this ‘standby state’ for as long as possible, preferably overnight.

• In the morning, unlock the screen, and then take a screenshot of the Home Screen again.

These two screenshots will help to document how long the device was in standby mode, and how much battery percentage was used.

Yeah, I've done all the things he mentioned a while back. I went to the apple store and they said my battery was physically fine, and told me to wait for a genius bar person to check the software. I feel he was just going to check stuff that was in that article, so I left after waiting there for 30 minutes.

I don't understand though. My phone only drained 3% over the night. And now, after I used it for something, now it's draining like crazy again.

I will check those things. Thanks. It's just weird, I don't think it drained while in standby mode until I started updating the software. It seems like every update I hope that it fixes the battery life, but it always makes it worse.

During an update, some of your settings may be changed back to factory defaults. Also, some apps may work differently. Use the procedure I gave you, as well as Ingo's advice. It is likely an app or two that are using up the majority of your battery. If my test shows that you have only very little power drain overnight, then it's not the device, nor is it the operating system. It's an application or other process causing the drain.

But if I make a phone call or if my FB messenger dings, all of sudden it's draining much faster. I don't get it.

Oh, and when I look at battery usage, it says the usage time is waaaaaaaay more than the amount of time I actually used it. Like it will say 3 hours when I was on for 30 minutes.

edit: like now the usage time is 2 hours. I've barely touched the phone.

Social media apps can also use up your battery life in standby. See what happens if only the default apps are installed.

So I have tried everything above. I did a fresh install to see how much it drained, and it was looking good for a while, but then it started draining in standby mode, so I went back to my backup. Starting fresh, it drained like like 20% in like 6.5 hours. Now, when I backed it up and tweaked the settings for optimization, it is still draining several %s per hour. I don't even want to use my phone as it is draining so fast just in standby mode. My battery was fine three months ago hardware wise, but was draining fast so I took it into the apple store.

I saw someone mention in a thread that Apple could test their battery remotely. Is this true?

Contact Apple Support and talk to them about your batterie problem. When I had problems with my 4s, they sent me a link to click in Safari which triggered some kind of test report to be sent to them while we talked and tried to figure out what was wrong.

You can also visit this page to do that: iPhone - Contact Support - Apple Support

Click on Apple Support, then on ->Battery, Power &Charging ->Battery questions and troubleshooting, and follow the instructions.
