Battery Drain in Standby Mode

So my battery life has been draining like crazy on my 5c with IOS 8.1.2. It seems to get worse with each update. I always update in the hopes that the battery life will get better, but it always gets worse. I tried all the tips on the internet (turning off location services, background app refresh, etc.

I did a little calculation and found out that my phone drains about 3% in one hour while in standby mode. That means that it will drain 48% in a 16 hour day! It used to never or barely drain when it was in standby mode.

Anybody have a similar problem or know some way to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Ryan

A friend of mine had a similar problem with his 4s in the times of iOS7. Anytime he selected a contact from the contact app to call, you could literally watch the percentage of the battery going down by the minute after ending the call, even if he just let it ring once. It took us a long time to find out this pattern, we tried nearly everything but did not think of such a strange coincidence. The solution was to switch off contact syncing in iCloud. After that you could select the contact info from the contact app without any issue, the battery did not drain at all. As soon as you activated contacts in iCloud again, the same thing started.

As far as I recall, the following iOS update fixed that somehow for his device. I never had this problem on my iPhone 4 at this time, I tried to do the same things, running the same iOS version, and no battery drain on my device.

So after turning off all iCloud stuff...I had some mixed results. It drained 0% one hour, 1% for two different hours, and 3% for an hour. All of this time it was in standby mode.

So it's kind of conflicted...3% for that one hour, but then good results for the other 3.

So I will leave all this iCloud stuff off.

I must ask you guys again though...say I want to restore my phone to factory, how do I get all of stuff back in the cloud. Do I just check them all on and then wait a while or something?

If you restored your phone to factory settings, you will be asked during the setup, if you want to use iCloud or the iCloud backup to restore your info from.

As soon as you switch on syncing to iCloud again, the data will be synced to your phone. For example if you sync events, starting the calendar app will sync the events saved in iCloud back again, same for contacts, etc. And don't forget to backup, I also keep a backup of my devices on my computer, using iTunes to back up from time to time. 😉

Start with the most suspicious ones, contacts, photos/photo stream, iCloud photo library...

As long as you are looking for that issue, you can also transfer your photos to your computer and switch off photo syncing in iCloud completely, that's what I did.

The only things I have activated in iCloud are Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Safari, Notes, Documents & Data, Backup.

Switching off "Documents & Data" will not delete the apps listed in those settings. They will all be back after activating "Documents & Data".

I think that either contacts or photos in iCloud are using your battery life.

Yeah, I went ahead and disabled all of the iCloud backup stuff. And I think I am seeing better results. Only one 3% drain, three 1% drains, and one 0% drain, over the course of an hour each.

I was asking in regards to what you said about getting that stuff updated on the Cloud if you re-activate all the backups. You said to visit each app that has that kind of data and it will be synced right? It doesn't just sync on its own, but I have to actually open that program up for it to sync, correct? Just verifying in case I restore my phone one day.

Thanks for putting up with my endless questions Ingo, just want to make sure I am doing everything right.
