How to delete User, minus sign grayed out? (MacBook pro)

Hmmm, it's not 10.5.6 you're on then, which version is it?

In your pic, Login items should only be showing for the logged in user, as well as the minus icon only grayed out for logged in users...

So, it seems these accounts are muxed up somehow, at top right of your screen, click on your short name OG & see if more than that account shows a check beside it.

I think we may have to create a new admin account, log out & into that one to see if the same holdup is getting us.

If that account’s logged in through Fast User Switching, log it out. If not, select it, click on the padlock at the bottom of the window, and provide your administrator password.

i was having the same trouble and tried turnIng off the users administrator rights that I wanted to delete. I then was able to delete their account. Hope this helps

I found this thread trying to solve a similar problem. searched on "delete greyed out user mac"

Accounts with Admin rights can't be deleted must convert to standard user to delete

Step one : log on using the Admin account you wish to delete

Step 2: navigate to users & groups under system preferences

Step 3: Click the lock to allow changes

Step 4 Unclick "allow user to administer this computer"

You will get a message that you need to log out to make this change

Step 5: log on using a different Admin account

Step 6: navigate to users & groups under system preferences

Step 7: click lock to allow changes

Step 8: highlight the standard user to delete

Step 9: click "-" to delete

Step 10: Decide on how much to delete of teh user acount, I selected all user files

I am running Yosemite 10.10.5

I know this is a whole year later, but thank you for your response to this question, it helped me a lot! I couldn't figure out how to delete my husband's account after he got his own computer and it was driving me nuts! I finally googled and found your response. I have deleted guest user accounts before. There are two people who use this iMac. I am the administrator, so I select the padlock, enter my password and I still cannot delete the Guest account by selecting the - sign. There is also a Guest folder displayed unde users. I can drag and drop the folder but can't delete the user via system preferences. Why? and is there another way to delete the guest user. Could the other user have set up the guest user?

Here's mine from 10.8.5, can't boot to 10.10 right now... is this even after you made a new admin account?

That’s a separate setting. Enable the menu and then see what accounts are logged in.
