Old MacBook 2006 Battery bulge?

Hi everyone!

I have an old White Macbook 2006, and its been fine all this time, a little slow but hey. And today I got it out to use, and about an hour in I noticed a bulge underneath. Its cracked the case and the battery packets inside the cover are showing through, that's how much it has bulged! Its part no. A1185 for model AP185? I can see that I need a new battery if I want this to work off the wall again, but I'm wandering whether its worth taking it into apple to show them the fault, or whether I'm going to get laughed at because its almost 9 years old aha! And also any advice on anywhere to buy a new battery would be great too 🙂

Amazon or any other online retailer - I don't think Apple make them for those models anymore, so you are probably going to have to buy a third party battery.

Take it to an Apple store if you really want, but 8-9 years is well beyond any warranty & realistic lifespan. It may be worth taking there if you want to dispose of it safely, otherwise take it to your local recycling centre/ hazardous waste handling etc. They are lithium ion, which can be explosive if handled badly, so take care not to puncture it.

If that's the original battery, they won't do anything other than offer to recycle the battery for you. 8-9 years is well beyond the expected lifespan of a battery and it's no surprise that this is happening.

You can get a new battery from Other World Computing (macsales.com) also. They have great customer support and can help figure out which battery you need.
