Macbook case discoloration

Hello,

I am aware of a large discoloration on the top of my macbook. It looks like a grease mark; however, I always wash my hands before I use my computer because I understand how easily the black mac retains fingerprints. I am the only person in my home, so I know that the stain is strictly discoloration and not from some greasy person's hands. Would apple replace the top of my macbook; is this even possible? The stain is large and very noticable; whether it be daylight or nighttime I can see it. I'm upset to think that I take extra precaution in keeping my computer clean, then somehow it has become discoloured. Has there been any other complaints buzzing around regarding the blackbook discolouration?

Are you sure it's discoloration and not smoothing of the matte finish? Can you upload a picture?

There have been threads discussing the smoothing of the finish on the Blackbooks (particularly on the keys) but it's really a normal thing, especially where keyboards are concerned. By smoothing, I mean that they become shiny.

If it is a stain, I apologize for questioning it. But I don't recall reading anywhere about actual stains on the Blackbooks.

Ahh... On the top? Hmm... that's interesting. I wonder what could be causing that.

You might keep track for a day or two of exactly how you store it, transport it, what kind of bag you're using, what's in the bag with the computer that could press on it and so forth.

Once you've eliminated any possibility that something could be rubbing on it from the outside, then maybe you could take it to an Apple store and ask them if that's normal wear on the outer case.

Yes I would say it could be smoothing because it looks shiny like a grease mark; however it is not happening on the keyboard, but on the top of the case, like where the white apple logo glows. I don't understand why the 'TOP' of the case would smooth though. I don't ever store anything on top of my mac. And I certainly don't balance the top of my computer on my finger. Thanks for your reply to my post!!!

The problem is that I don't take my computer anywhere; I leave it on my desk, uncovered, turned off at night, in a non-eating area. That's why I feel that this is a defect in the material and not something from my end of the rope. Thanks for your suggestions, but unfortunately I am only guilty of taking great care of my blackbook. Do you know how much money it costs to replace the top of the case?
