I recently just downloaded a .pdf file textbook for my college class. Right now I'm highlighting some important sentences in the file but often times I forget to click the highlight button again to stop highlighting. So I highlight unnecessary sentences/words. Instead of going to "edit" at the top and undoing the action there, is there a way to undo faster?

There is an associated keyboard command for going to the Edit menu and selecting "Undo" action. From the App shortcuts section in the article below:
Command-ZUndo the previous command (some apps allow you to undo multiple times)
