Ipod 3rd Gen Nano - Yellow lcd screen

I have a 3rd generation ipod nano which is several years old, have recently noticed the whites on the LCD screen are a rich yellow. Researching this fault, I cannot find anything about it online. Whilst aware apple no longer supports ipod - was curious. Is this a known fault with this generation? What is this an indication of? Does LCD need to be replaced on unit? Doesn't seem to effect performance, but cover art looks odd. Product is from a non-smoking home, was purchased from new and has been treated with care. Thanks for any insight on this, please see image comparison to demonstrate how yellow lcd has become :

Hey Joe,

Thanks but the unit was purchased in 2009, no longer covered by warranty. Not a lot of point in contacting apple, paying for a service which is going to cost more than the units overall value - especially if I can repair it myself for the cost of new or refurb components.

* Just to be clear, this is not an issue with LCD membrane (or dried glue etc), the actual pixels are banana yellow coloured instead of white.
