What is the exact error message? A license does not expire.

If the error message says something about "Certificate expired", change the current date in the System Preferences Date&Time to a date well before March 23, 2012. Then try to install again. You can change the date back later, after the installation is complete.

iPhoto from the iLife '11 installer disk will not run directly, because the installed version will be too old.

Try to update afterwards from the Apple Support Downloads page (Downloads & Updates). That should take you to version 9.4.5. Then try to update further from the App Store.

if that does not work, delete iPhoto again from Applications, and go to the App Store main page. Search for iPhoto and download - if you are lucky, it will show for free.

True, Larry, but if there is no iPhoto installed, installing iPhoto '11 might make a free update possible.

The real question is, why there is no iPhoto installed on the new iMac. The AppStore should be showing iPhoto already among the Purchases.
