Logic Remote Sees My Computer but Won't Connect

Hello,

I've tried connecting the Logic Remote app on my iPad mini (v1.2) to Logic Pro X (v10.1) on my iMac and it refuses to connect. The logic remote app shows the option to select my computer but yet it won't actually connect. I've tried on both wifi and bluetooth.

I tried deleting the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file and restarting the computer...but that didn't work. I reinstalled the logic remote and restarted my iPad and that also didn't work. I am not running a firewall on my computer or router, so there should be no issue there.

Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

Late 2009 iMac

10.9.4 Mavericks

Logic Pro X 10.1

iPad Mini

iOS 8.1.2

Logic Remote 1.2

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

I wonder if there are some errant files on my computer, that were left behind, that are causing the issue.

Indeed.. It wouldn't surprise me at all if there were the case...

So..

Making sure you have a working backup you can roll back to if needed...

Use FindAnyFile

http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

...to locate and remove the files found via Etrecheck....

After deleting some of the files.. keep rerunning Etrecheck again to ensure you have truly got rid of these errant files (Bear in mind you may have to restart your Mac every so often too to clear things out properly) as well as cleaning up all the stuff that could conflict with the way OS X / 10.1 works.. Anything that modifies normal OS X behavior such as Shades, Button Manager or iTouch Server in your case.. should be uninstalled/removed.. as part of this troubleshooting process.

PITA I know.. But, given all the other things we have checked... there has to be something specific to your system, that is causing the issue.... It's just a matter of locating it.

I couldn't agree more..... but one has to take what Users say at face value intiially at least.....

Which is why, after a while and a cause for the issue isn't found, I tend to request an Etrecheck report to see for myself what is set up, running in the background, installed... and so on.

Yes, clearly there is something different happening with my machine. I'm not quite sure what but I will try and clear out my system the best I can as suggested by The Art of Sound. I leave for a trip abroad in a couple of days so I'm not sure if I will have time before I leave, but when I'm back in a few weeks I will make a post and see where I am with everything. Thanks for all your help thus far!

Did this ever get resolved? I'm having the same issue over here out of the blue. I'm not sure when Logic Remote quick working in terms of updates but I have a feeling it was after I updated to IOS 9.0.2 as I was able to control Logic 10.2 prior to that update. I'm following along the tips in this thread so will report anything if I have any success. I'm also not able to use LP Touch anymore as Logic isn't "seeing" that as well. I booted up V Control Pro and updated it and it partially worked. The transport worked but the faders weren't responsive. In all cases, the iPad is finding my Mac on the network but just can't connect. I'm not getting the dialog box in Logic either telling me to add the control surface. Hmmm. Anyway, no remote control for me. Ironically, I'm might try reinstalling Touch OSC again to see if that thing works.

Well I figured out my issue and easily fixed it. At some point I must have deleted all my midi plugins that are stored within the Logic app's contents (right click on the icon and choose "show contents") as all that was there was the driver for my Alphatrack. Once I figured that out, I recovered all of them via time machine and got everything working again!

Im struggling to understand why anyone would do this............

What was your thinking at the time?

Cheers..

I'm old and I suffer from dementia :-)

I've been trouble shooting my Alphatrack as it hasn't been working properly since one of the Logic updates. I think I must have removed the other plugins at some point and forgotten about it. Either that or when I updated to 10.2 there was a glitch. Just don't remember do to the dementia. Hopefully that satisfies your curiosity.

ive been trying to connect logic remote to Logic Pro x (2012 iMac) for 6 months,

I waste a few hours most days trying to fix it,

nothing ive found on the Internet has fixed it,

Any creativity I had was turned into stress long ago,

im using the latest version of everything

i can connect via Bluetooth but nothing works, faders are stuck to bottom of page and ping back if I move them,

track names/colours are all wrong, transport doesn't work,

so Bluetooth doesn't work either,

it did connect to wifi the first time I tried it, but hasn't since that first time,

also tried a few other remote apps that didn't work either

Ok...

First things first..

Some of the following will not be the cause of your issue but some may.. especially network related items..

You have a VPN service running..... Tunnelbear... (Likely cause)

You have adware on your system.... (Possible cause) Use Malwarebytes free Anti Malware to remove..

You do have or had midi controllers connected or installed on your system... (NI, and Line6 IK drivers are installed.)

You have Waves Soundgrid installed... (Their networking util)

You have a bunch of what are generally considered 'bad apps' such as CleanMyMac, TelestreamAudio and uPointer installed....

All of the above would be things i would wish to check/remove/clean up.... even if they are not directly related to your current issue.. plus I would clean up and remove all the old stuff you have installed but not loaded/running/out of date as listed in that report.

Finally, you do not appear to be making any backups... (Unless you are using a manual system and i dont see anything relating to that in the report)

This is a really bad move and I highly recommend you begin to do so immediately as its never if but when... a HD will fail..as it will, one day.

You are welcome and fingers crossed some of that might help....

The fact you cant connect via your iPhones might be a pointer to the fact it is something amiss with or on your Mac thats at the root of your issue..

One other thing to test.... is if your iPhone or iPad via something like VLC or Infuse ios apps.. can 'see' and access your Mac over WiFi too...

and also.. make sure if you have both an ethernet and wifi connection.. disable ethernet completely via the network util on your Mac during tests..

There is supposedly a fix in 10.2.1 to deal with this known issue about having two networks enabled at the same time causing probs...but I haven't had time to fully test the fix to see if it truly does resolve that weird behavior..

Finally... even though I know you had bluetooth issues.. Which brand of router are you using for WiFi? If you havent done so already.. try creating an ad hoc connection just between your Mac and iPad.. to eliminate router related problems... and then test.
