iPhone 4 Message:SIM Required (in phone that has no SIM card slot)

I have a Verizon iPhone 4 (CDMA), model A1349, which has no SIM card. It has never had a SIM card. There is no place to put a SIM card in. This is my phone and worked perfectly since I purchased it new. I bought a new iPhone 6 for myself and want to put this phone on my son's phone line. We have spent hours with Verizon and they cannot help us. When we try to do something with this phone we get the message: "SIM Required - Please insert a SIM card" "Try Again." Like I said - there is no SIM card. This model iPhone has no place to insert a SIM card. We are completely and utterly at a loss. Any idea how to get past this? Thanks.

FIXED 🙂!!!! Thanks for the responses. I called earlier today 10:30am CST, was told I would get a call around 2:00 the next day. I just powered down my iphone 4s, took out the global sim card, did a restore and connected to itunes. The first message that popped up when I hooked to itunes was, your iphone is now activated as a CDMA phone! Yay!! So I called verizon, had my planned switched back over and now my phone works! Sounds like alot more people are becoming aware of the problem and how to fix it! Good luck to everyone else, its an easy call to apple, just mention those keywords that "BenjaminL" says to mention and it will be taken care of. This is what his keywords are incase you missed it on page 8

  • it needs to have the "unlock flag flipped"
  • they need to "update the activation policy"
  • it needs to have the "activate" message sent to the phone

I too was able to get if fixed. I called Apple on Monday, February 9th, and got in touch with a Tech Adviser and tried to explain it to him about the issue and what the potential fix could be by referring to this discussion board over the phone...but he still transferred me to Verizon Tech support who transferred me back to the Apple Tech Adviser. I was able to send the Tech Adviser an email to all that was discussed here and he escalated it to the Sr. Engineer. Today, I powered on my iPhone 4 CDMA and it worked; no SIM card required screen.

Seems like Apple is getting wind of the problem because the Tech Advisor mentioned that after my call, his next call was the SAME exact thing. Hope Apple figures it out so they can prevent having all these calls.

For me.. and others iPhone 4 CDMA users in indonesia still have problem with activation - SIM Required

as per today, i recently try to restore firmware over the itunes.. still have same problem (SIM Required)

like was i write before, i was chatted with apple support, they cannot fixed this until i do calling Apple support, and the advisor (chat) gave me two phone number local apple support. But no one can be reach them by phone, only IVR was answer me then the phone is hang up

if i call the apple support out of my country, it will be international dialing and very expensive to doing that

Maybe there is many users too outside USA who cannot doing call to apple support to get fixed the problem

Hopefully, this issued can be solved internationally asap, not only case-by-case handling by calling the apple support

there's alot reseller who cannot sell they product (iphone 4 cdma) until the issued is solved

Okay so to get Apple support, because of course I am out of the service of "covered" without paying. I spoke to Verizon technical support who then spoke to Apple on my behalf and then they were willing to help me at no charge. Got escalated to Senior Tech who said "Your phone has the wrong Information Activation, we will need to change it on this end. I am sending this up to an Engineer to correct and will call you back in about 30 minutes to have it resolved." They also gave me a Ticket# Mentioning this thread name helped me with Verizon and Apple getting to the help I needed 🙂
