This is very strange. I bought mine from LaCie direct since we have no Apple Store in Iceland. Jettison is a great utility. It ejects external when my mac goes to sleep and mounts when I wake my computer . There are many other settings, ejects before shut down et cetera. It made by St. Claire who makes Default Folder. I like this little utility a lot.

I have the same problem with an external disk G-Technology via Thunderbolt.

I think I've « solved » the problem proceeding this way :

- I eject the external disk

- I put my computer to sleep

- when my computer is asleep, I turn the power off from the external drive

- my computer awakes (and goes back into sleep after about 20 seconds if I do nothing) but no panic !

NB Sorry for my bad english...

That did not work here. Kernel panic again. The only thing that works is ejecting the drive, putting it to sleep, then putting the mac to sleep or shutting down the mac. After having put the mac to sleep and waking it up again the sleeping drive will not be woken up, it will be put back on the desktop after a previous mac shut down and restart. Both without any problem so far.

Is it really the same problem ?

Mine was the following one : when I turned the power off from my external drive (after ejecting it), my iMac (27 inches mid-2011 Yosemite 10.10.2) crashed and rebooted.

Now, if I put my computer to sleep just before turning the power off from my external drive, the problem is solved.

I did it 6 times to be sure and everything's OK.

I am having the same issue here. I was about to shut down my Mac Pro...ejected the La CIe TB2 drive, then powered it off...then a second or two later my display screen went black. The Mac Pro did reboot automatically and I checked the Console app and confirmed it was a kernel panic. Because the La Cie TB2 drive has been working well with previous versions of Yosemite, I can't help but think this issue lies at Apple's doorstep with OS X 10.10.2 update. Trying to figure out now how to send them my crash report from the Console app.

Well, this discussion has been quite useful with my setup.

It seems that I also began having unwanted late 2013 MacPro crashes and restarts after upgrading from OS 10.10.1 to 10.10.2.

The restarts occur when my automatic programmable power timer shuts off my OWC Thunderbay 4 bays enclosure (filled with 4 x 3.5 inch hard drives.) Even before 10.10.2 I was having strange problems (like SecuritySpy cameras freezing up when powering on the TB4; strange indeed), but now things are more serious with consistent crashes restarts of my MacPro whenever the TB4 is powered off. I had tried a lot of different fixes, but none of them solved these problems.

Following several suggestions here I now program (using Keyboard Maestro, a great macro program) my MacPro to sleep before my automatic power timer turns on or off the TB4. Also I discovered that the TB4 needs about 30 seconds to totally sleep after the MacPro is put to sleep; after that period of time I then shut off the TB4 power (using a programmable power timer). A bit of a work-a-round, but no more MacPro crashes and restarts, and no more SecuritySpy camera freeze-ups. I also use Mountain to mount and eject external drives at night for my nightly backups. Similar to Jettison.

It is unfortunate that for some people the sleep before powering off does not work for them. Try waiting a minute after sleeping before powering off.

In any case, I think the crashing and restarting is a new problem created by OS 10.10.2. I hope Apple fixes this sooner than later.
