Kernel panic

I have a new Mac Pro (black cylinder) and some weeks ago when installing a thunderbolt2 drive I couldn't setup the drive. Then kernel panics occurred. But with a new thunderbolt drive the problem disappeared. However, today again kernel panics all happening after ejecting the drives and shutting them down. Then the black screen with the dreaded warning that the mac was shut down and a panic report.

Yesterday there was an OS X Yosemite update. Could this have caused the problem or is there something seriously wrong with my new mac pro? I fear the last. Anyone experiencing same problem after the OS X update?

Is it a Lacie drive? There was a post yesterday on same problem with Lacie drive after upgrading to 10.10.2

Macpro 2013 late update 10.10.2 make problem with thunderbolt drive

Also, I just ejected the disks on my OWC Mervury Eleite Pro Dual and unpluded the power and got same reboot and panic

Also, just checke with my OWC Thunderbolt enclosure that uses four 2 122. inche drives with same problem

(Combo update lists system requirement as OS X 10.10 but normally combo updates could be applied over any previous dot release. (An old troubleshooting tip, even reinstalling a Combo update over the same version.) However a user post in Apple's Yosemite forum said the 10.10.2 combo updater would not apply on his 3 OS X 10.10.1 systems. I wasn't sure if this was common but a reader also reported it as have several other users later in that thread. So is this a policy change or a Combo installer bug?)

Update: What I am now trying out is the following procedure. Eject the drive from the desktop. Push the blue button for one second for sleep. Then shutdown the mac. When the mac is started up again, the drive will pop up again I expect without problem. So the point may be to not shut down the drive by pushing the button for 4 seconds. I'll see if this works.

That's another possibility if you really want to shut the drive down. For now, I'll stick to my procedure, put the drive to sleep after ejecting by pushing the blue button for one second. The drive in sleep stays cool, doesn't heat up.

I do not have a Lacie. The OWC drives/enclosres do not have any buttons or switches

I see. I have disabled all sleep options on my mac pro because putting it to sleep caused an error "drive was not properly ejected" each time and because putting the mac to sleep shuts down the fan but keeps the mac unnecessarily warm.

What you could try is turn on sleep functions or maybe you already have some sleep functions active, and see if connected external drives now do normally react to the mac being put to sleep without the 'drive was not properly ejected' notice. Normally the mac should be able to put all external drives to sleep or shut them down when the mac is put to sleep or shut down.

What happens when you shut down the mac or put it to sleep while the external drives are active?

Kernel Panic is not one error, it is one of Thousands of Errors.

Prudent practice would be to analyze that panic report to be certain the ThunderBolt drivers were the cause of the panic, and not, for example, uncorrectable RAM errors.

It would help if you could assure Readers that the panics were indeed caused by ThunderBolt drivers. If you find kernel panic reports unfathomable, post a typical one here and Readers can confirm that the ThunderBolt drivers are the source of the panics.
