iPad air vs air 2? As a Gift

I never use apple tablets at all,(just 5 and 5s phones) and I want to get my father a New iPad to replace his old 1G ipad (yes people still have those)

It sorta annoying but cool the Ipad 2 is supported up till this year. My dad loves watching alot of videos on his ipad and wants some apps as well but its ios is 5 i think. I want to get him a fast reliable ipad that can be supported for few years like the iPad 2. Though I'm a bit at dismay because while I like Both, i feel like the next ipad would finally get maybe better display? Should I wait?

I wouldn't worry about waiting for the newest iPad, because there is always one supposedly coming out. Which means you'll always be waiting.

I don't think there's much difference between an Air or Air 2. Especially for what your father is using it for.

There is no guarantee how long an iPad will receive iOS updates. The iPad 2 is going on 4 years I think, while the first generation ipads only got updates for 2-3 or so.

So Air or Air 2, go for the model that ges you the best bang for the buck.
