1. Are you sure Bluetooth is turned on on both devices? Check if you are not.
2. Are there options like 'Only allow specified devices' or 'Require verification before connecting' on your Sony Xperia?
3. Does your iPad Mini detect the Sony Xperia?
4. If your iPad able to connect to other devices via bluetooth?
5. Is your Xperia able to do the same?
Yes bluetooth turned on and there are no options apart from turn on and turn off yes iPad detects my phone but just says not connected and my phone has no problem connecting to other Bluetooth devices I've not yet checked my iPad with another Bluetooth device
OK, you may wish to check your iPad. IF you are near an Apple Retailer, ask them and they may allow you to connect to one of their products using your iPad. While there, try using one of the store devices to connect to your Xperia. If it connects, REMEMBER TO FORGET THE DEVICE ON THE STORE DEVICE!
