It may also be worth noting, I signed out of FaceBook, uninstalled that app, and if I need to, I access it via a web browser. That is probably giving me some added battery savings too. I do use my phone for texting, lots of email, OTP's, and the occasional 5-10 minute phone call. I noticed the most considerable savings after I took the steps in my earlier post though.

Some of the varying results may be due to different phones. For example, I have had good results on my 5S but my wife's 4S doesn't even have the ability to disable these settings from what I can tell. She doesn't seem to complain about battery life though either.

I still think Apple needs to do some fixing for a long term fix, but I hope this at least helps us 5S owners. Best of luck to you all.

@jfialkowski thank you for this fix. I have an iPhone 6 plus that's only 2 months old and had the same heat/battery drain since I installed 8.1.3 earlier this week. I used your fix yesterday morning, and I am back to about 2 days of charge with normal usage. So your fix seems to work.

Question: when i see battery usage last 24 hours it says Messages 41%. Is that a related problem? I'm mailing sending mainly iMessages.

Tried the full list suggested - turned those off

no abnormal app use. i don't use fscebook app and it's not got privileges

actually turned a bunch more off as well... life is a little longer but battery continues to drain fasy

llooking at usage, the iphone continues to not go into standby mode. looked at another iphone on 8.1.2 and can see the usage difference there. Apple needs to fix this.

Mileage may vary, but 8.1.3 has a problem.

traveling and really annoying timing. luckily have external pack to get by with

I had the same severe battery drain problem after ios 8.1.3 upgrade on my iPhone 5. For the same apps setting, it used to last 2-3 days but it went down to lasting only a few hours after full charge. I brought it to apple store yesterday suspecting battery problem, but the tech insisted on turning off apps update, gps, and notification after diagnosed the battery. the corrective actions did not help very much. I did some more research, and end up turning OFF almost everything including 4G LTE; now the battery draining rate is much slower. after 24-hours, it went down from 100% to 82%, so I guess it will last a few days like before. I am not happy, but it works for me for now until apple come up with a solution - I need the phone and e-mail to work reliably.

I am with you - except with iphone 6.

shut off about everything including Background App Refresh

also had some strange battery depletion with the phone powered off as well. Dropped from 64% to 58% after about 2 hours off.... And after less than 10 minutes to 28% then another power cycle was at 40... But still something whacked.

Never experienced anything like this in all the years been using an iPhone back to the gen 1.

under usage what is clear is that the phone never stays in standby long - even if locked/'standby' for an hour - shows that hour added to standby, but the non-standby counter also advances nearly same. not the behavior I confirmed on a 5S that isn't experiencing issue.

I Haven't tried the setting reset yet... Will try that - and orherwse going to take advantage of Apple supporting 8.1.2 downgrade and hope back to base.
