PowerMac G5 not displaying anything!

We do need to know which 10.5 Disc this was from, many are IntelMac only.

Where you got this 10.5 image from? It could be a 'grey disk' image that is for a specific model (normally has iLife or extra software with it), or it could be a 'retail upgrade' disk that supports different models. Do you know if it is for Universal or PPC. There may be a read me file at the root of it that says what it is for.

My Terminal question is useless since there is no OS to use to see what is 'bless'ed.

Do you have any other bootable OS X media like any bootable backups or earlier OS disks?

I'm starting to think you may be better off getting a PowerPC Live CD of Ubuntu to see if this thing will boot from that.

Ubuntu will need a PPC download… It does limit what build you can run, but if one of them can run we know that the G5 is working.

We can't really help with this 10.5 OS, it's a total unknown - it may be mislabelled as PPC, ripped incorrectly or hacked etc. Sorry I know we have tried lots already, but the terms of use here prohibit the use of that stuff (even though Apple have effectively abandoned that OS now).

It the interest of avoiding spending money, try Ubuntu or any other free OS's if they work, get an original OS X disk to try.

Trouble is Apple no longer sells it, check eBay & such for the Retail version, not the Gray Discs...

Grey disks are specific to the Mac model - they include extra software that was sold with the Mac (e.g. iMacs had Office test suites & bundled iLife etc) and one disk has AHT installed too.

If you can be certain the model is 100% correct those disks are usually fine, however it's difficult to work out which disk shipped with which revision of which model. Ebay/ Amazon is not the place to get accurate product details, you may have better luck ordering from Mac repair or service shops etc.

Retail disks are the simplest way to get a bootable disk, just be sure Macs minimum OS isn't an issue.

I would try Ubuntu 12.4 or maybe 10.4 if 12 fails. Your Mac is very old - it gets less likey that it will run newer OS's. I doubt many Ubuntu users are testing PPC these days either.

Select the PPC image on that page & burn it to a disk. Try booting by holding alt.

Sorry, it is sounding like this Mac is not able to boot anything at all.

You have tried a Mac OS & now multiple PPC Ubuntu live CDs are not working.

I just tried a PPC G4 with an old CD I had of Ubuntu 6.10 and Xubuntu 7.10 both showed up in the boot picker (holding alt at startup). Both eventually booted into live mode.

One more thing to try…

Grab the Apple hardware test disk.

PowerMac v2.2.5GMc2 <-- I think this is the correct one - search on Apple.com to confirm it - I used Mactracker.ca & https://github.com/upekkha/AppleHardwareTest to find that link, Apple should have downloads, but they are buried in the site somewhere.

Burn that to a CD & see if it boots, you will need to select it again in the boot picker.

Give us a clue what disk(s) you are talking about!

You are forcing us to ask every single question multiple times & not giving us any info. We can't help if you can't be bothered to give detail.
