Tired of Disk not Ejected...?

Never seen nor heard of the issue. Have you told Apple through their feedback channel?

Hi: If you do a google search for "Yosemite Disk does not eject properly," you will turn up a lot of complaints some of which seem to related to with when the mac goes to sleep. There have been suggested remedies by interested individuals (none of whom appear to be Apple), but none of which seem to be permanent solutions.
Hi: I know its been reported, but none of the solutions proposed seem to work for very long. In my case, this problem goes back to maverick, which I somehow resolved (don't remember) but has come back with a vengeance with Yosemite.
From the things I've read, drives disconnecting during sleep is related to the drive controller not working properly. You can set the drives to not sleep in the Energy Saver preferences.
I have a handful of Seagate drives daisy-chained on FW800, a few USB 2 from various manufacturers (icyDock, Macally), and all sleep without issue.
I have found that holding the 'shift' key down and clicking on the first 'Disk not ejected properly deletes the whole list - I seem to collect about 6 or 7 when my iMac is on standby for any length of time.
Same problem.. so tired of those messages.
Not even only when in sleepmode but also when working on my mac i get i get those messages randomly
soooo afraid this will corrupt the external hard disks and i will lose my data...

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.
Improper disk ejection related to sleep has been a problem since at least Mountain Lion, and it is disturbing that it has persisted through two more OS releases, especially given Apple's push to offer systems containing only one internal HD, with all significant data storage off-loaded onto externals. Obviously, those externals need to stay connected reliably.
I have Snow Leopard through Yosemite installed on my Mac Pro. Guess which drives NEVER have the disk ejection problem? There are reasons why I use Snow Leopard 95% of the time.
I've just submitted the following via email to Apple. No doubt we'll have a solution by the end of next week.

Are you aware of the pervasive problem that has existed throughout Mavericks and Yosemite with the external "disk not ejected properly" notification appearing randomly when the MacBook Pro (and maybe others, as well) is a sleep, or just the screen saver is on, or even when working actively with the computer? For me this has happened only with USB drives, not Thunderbolt drives, but with Western Digital, LaCie, and also an original Apple SSD in a USB 3.0 box.
No one has been able to find the offending file or files or operations associated with this issue, only that it seems to have started with Mavericks, and was not present in Snow Leopard.
Do you, Apple, think maybe an engineer or two could be spared to work on this?"
Yes I have this problem. I have a Mac Pro3,1 with 4 internal disks and two external disks, one FW800 and One eSATA. I get the message only for the eSARTA drive. If I put in on FW800 I do not get the error. The error occurs on Maverick and Yosemite even in Safe Mode.
I also found out that if you put Computer sleep on never you will not get the message.
What is interesting to me is that even though I get this message the drive seems to perform fine.
Since I only use the drive for backup I will probably put in on FW800 as speed is not that important.

Yep, that'll fix em. Can't wait till the end of the week when you get Apple to solve your unique problem.

Well, add me to the list. Same problem, nothing works, no idea what to do now. I've just submitted the following online feedback to Apple, FWIW:
"Since upgrading my MacBook Pro to Yosemite (10.3.3) last week, I have consistently received a "disk not ejected properly" error message for my external hard drive (used for Time Machine backups and other file storage) whenever I put the computer to sleep by closing the cover. I never had this problem before the OS upgrade (from Mountain Lion). I have tried all of the work-arounds suggested in the user forums (ignoring the drive in Spotlight by adding it to the Privacy list, changing the energy saver sleep settings in System Preferences), but nothing helps. Whenever I reopen my laptop after closing the cover, I get this error message and the external disk icon disappears from my desktop. The external drive is a LaCie Little Big Disk 5400 2TB external drive purchased 2012."
I appreciate all of the efforts and advice of others on this thread. Just wish that Apple would acknowledge and fix the problem!
Did any of you try my suggestions set sleep to never or use Firewire if available? What connection type are you using with the external drive?
Why is Apple so unresponsive to the "Disk Not Ejected Properly" messages that collect in numbers overnight or during the inactive day? This goes back to Maverick and if the net is any measure is epidemic with Yosemite
