My son-in-law gave me his old Iphone 5c. He doesn't remember the passcode. I've tried all the directions I can find to disable find my Iphone. Help

My son-in-law gave us his old IPhone 5c, but doesn't remember his passcode. I was told at the ATT store to disable find my iPhone and I would be able to reset to factory settings. That didn't work. I've searched on Icloud and apple and have tried everything I could find. Please help

Your son-in-law is going to have to remove the device from Find My iPhone. That can be done via the iCloud website. He can log into www.icloud.com and remove the device from his account. If he does not remember his Apple ID password he can go to http://iforgot.apple.com to try to reset it.
