System not seeing my Canon MG5422 Wifi printer all of a sudden.

My iMac installed the OS X 10.2.2 update on 30 Jan and I upgraded my Comcast cable modem on 3 Feb. My Wifi works fine but all of a sudden I can't see my printer. I tried to print something and got a "cannot communicate with the printer error". So I removed the printer from System Preferences and now I can't get it back. When I hit the "+" button to add a printer I get the add screen but there's nowhere to go from there...the system does not see the printer so won't add it automatically, I can search it but can't find it, and I cannot get to an input point to add a name. So I cannot communicate to the printer.

The two things that have changed are the 10.2.2 update (which was supposed to fix some wifi issues) and the new cable modem, but like I said the wifi for internet (web and email) is working fine. Has the Yosemite update caused similar issues with anyone?

Reinstall the drivers > Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : PIXMA MG5422

Then go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print then click ➕.

You may need to re enter your Wi-Fi password for the printer to work > Canon U.S.A. : Wireless Help

That was the first thing I tried, Carolyn, after I had initially removed the printer from the System Preferences. To no avail. With new drivers I can't seem to find a way to add the printer or have the system recognize that it's there.

Ok.. restart your Mac and the printer then try adding the printer in Sys Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print.

Did a full shut down and reboot, Carolyn. Still no way to add the printer and the system doesn't see it...killin' me!

The appearance of the printer in the Default view of the Add printer window relies on a protocol called Bonjour. There have been quite a few users who upgraded to Yosemite only to find that their wifi printer is no longer visible. Until Apple resolves this issue you can add your printer using the LPD protocol. To do so you will need to determine the IP address being used by the MG5422. This can be done via the touch panel under Device Settings > Network Settings. Once you learn the IP address then on the Mac you can click to add the printer and select the IP icon. Here you can enter the IP address, set the Protocol to Line Printer Deamon and leave the Queue field blank. Then change the name to Canon MG5422 and in the Use menu, browse for the Canon MG5400 series driver. Then click Add to complete and see if this will get you printing again.

OT: just got the MG7520 a few days ago - color reproduction is good, so it'll be fine even though it is terribly noisy. The setup with MAC address filtering took forever, LOL..... thanks for the input!

Good to read. I was worried with you being accustomed to the Epson that you might find the Canon "off colour". As for the noise, unfortunately that is a sign of the times with plastic frames. You drop a machine these days and it explodes into pieces...
