Using the FCB1010 to trigger EXS24 samples in Mainstage 2.0

Hello!

My band and I recently decided to not look for a fourth member and instead we're planning on triggering samples when we need them. Being the bass player, the triggering of samples has fallen to me. The singer/guitar player did a bit of research on the web and went out and bought a Behringer FCB1010. Luckily, I've got mainstage. We seem to have everything we need... except the knowledge to actually pull this off.

I've watched a number of videos regarding the FCB1010 and Mainstage but all the ones I've found relate to using the FCB1010 with a guitar and stompboxes. The only video I found with the EXS24 and Mainstage had the samples linked to a keyboard, which I won't be able to use to trigger our samples. I did snag the iFCB app and everything works so far. The FCB talks to iFCB and to Mainstage. I've got all the samples loaded into the EXS24 and they all sound fine.

However, I just can't figure out for the life of me how to link up a single note on the EXS24 to a footswitch so I can trigger it via the FCB1010. Has anyone done this in the past? Is this even possible or have we just wasted some money on this idea?

Did you ever figure this out and have it working?

Also, just wondering if mainstage 3 has made this any easier? I'm new to this and trying to do the same so thanks for any help!

The MIDI commands that the FCB sends can be mapped to notes within MainStage. Select layout mode. Select a pedal. The hardware input parameters will appear in the screen control inspector on the left. Since you mentioned that the FCB is communicating with MainStage, I'm assuming you have it assigned to a MIDI port. If not, make sure the FCB shows up here. Select type>note on/off, and below that, the note number.

Thanks for the reply!

Was able to follow your advice pretty closely, though instead of MIDI port (as on yours) mine just says Device (which only gives me the option of my interface, which the FCB is hooked into, or Q49, or a caps lock keyboard.) However, when I go to "Perform", none of the foot switch buttons are available to press and when I click on a button on the foot controller itself, nothing happens. Mainstage is reading the FCB, though, as I've got yellow lights on the switches in "Layout."

The parameter is labelled device in MS 2(MIDI port in MS3). In this box you could select all, since you're only using the one device. Is MainStage receiving MIDI? Watch the activity monitor at the top center of the screen while pressing a button on the FCB. Do you see any MIDI activity?

What instrument is in the channel strip? Try creating a new channel strip in edit mode. I believe the default instrument in MS 2 is electric piano. Make sure it is assigned to your device in the software instrument channel strip inspector>MIDI input tab.

There is MIDI activity being recognized. I've also noticed on the edit screen that all of the foot switches have a "!" on them.

I've got the EXS24 on a new channel strip.
