As OS of this ipad couldn't be updated after 5.1.1 version. i need to know what should I do with this ipad as most of the latest application ask for OS 7 above?

You can't upgrade past iOS 5.1.1 so any apps requiring iOS 6 or greater can't be installed.
Your only option is to acquire an iPad 2 or greater.
You can trade it in when you purchase a new ipad

Not sure what you're suggesting here. Apple does not accept trade-ins when purchasing new devices. The OP might have Apple recycle the iPad but that is not quite like a trade-in.
Neil is hardly suggesting you throw your iPad in the dustbin. The article he gave you shows you how to load apps when they have a IOS 5.1.1 version available. Also remember many apps were websites first. FaceBook, YouTube and many others all can be reached using Safari.
