Intellipoint Wireless Mouse Software for OS 9

Anyone one know if there is a version of MS Intellipoint software for OS 9 that is more recent than version 2.3.2 available at VersionTracker? I've got a wireless laser mouse 5000 that I'd like to have more than single click function with when I boot into OS 9.2.2.

BTW, it's a great mouse in OS X.

Thanks,

Carl B.

Hi, Carl -

You can indeed use a multi-button mouse, and/or one with a scroll wheel, in OS 9. I've been using MS Intellimouse Explorer models for years with my G4s.

Not sure where you could get the MS Intellipoint software - but then, not sure you'd want to. I don't use it with my MS mouses. Instead, I use USB Overdrive - it's better than the MS software, has more features and control, and comes in both OS 9 and OSX versions.

Reading the current info at the USBOverDrive site, I'm not sure if wireless mouses are yet supported by it in OS 9; apparently they (at least bluetooth ones) are not yet supported by it in OSX.

Carl,

I was sure I got my IntelliPoint software for my latest MS wireless optical mouse from the MS site, v4 or v5 I think it was. They supplied OS9 drivers and it worked OK with the mouse.

However I did get a few phantom right clicks when using it under OS9.

tucows is a great update download site, it may have older versions of the IntelliPoint software that you could use. Unlike MacUpdate, etc, it doesn't just contain (dead) links back to the original manfacturers site, it has the actual software on a series of mirrors.

Don,
Thanks for the suggestion, but when I tried USB Overdrive it made my cursor disappear and I completely lost control of my desktop. After reverting back to my ADB mouse I was able to uninstall USB Overdrive and regain control of my desktop and input devices. I guess USB Overdrive hasn't been updated for the more recent MS Intellimice.

Simon,
I checked the MS software downloads first, but the only thing I found was the most current version, IntelliPoint 6.0. You are right, version 3 or 4 might work if I can find a download site. Version 2.3.2 at VersionTracker loads all right and doesn't inhibit operation, but it doesn't enable any features on my Intellimouse.
