Text Message Forwarding confirm code won't show up in Mac

I'm trying to setup Text Message Forwarding between my iPhone 6 and MBP (mid 2011). Both Mac and iPhone are in the same network and using same iCloud account, but when I try to enable it on the iPhone it asks me to enter a code that's shown on the Mac, but nothing shown there. I've read many threads here and over the the internet, no chance :(. Should my number appear in the Mac's iMessage app? it only shows my emails registered to send/receive iMessages.

Its a pretty easy fix, turn off iMessage on your ipad then send the request via iPhone And then open up messages on you tablet. It will give you a Login box, login into you apple account and it's done.

I had this happen to me after I'd upgraded my iPhone. My Mac was available to choose in my iPhone under General Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding. Choosing it, however, did not pop the message. Here's what I had to do (and what you should check regardless of whether you recently upgraded your iPhone or not):

  1. On your Mac, go to Messages and open Preferences.
  2. Go to Accounts and make sure your iMessage account shows up.
  3. Sign in to this account, then enable both your phone number and your email address.

This was my issue - since I had already signed into my iMessage account long before, I never thought to check it. However, the upgrade to the new phone somehow broke the connection to my iMessage account. As soon as I restored it, everything connected again.

I'd recommend making sure this is done before trying some of the other suggestions on this page (which are excellent and necessary in a variety of situations - but do the least destructive and most necessary steps first!).

Probably a more rare problem, but after trying all the suggestions I noticed that in iOS, if I go to Settings, then Phone, "My Number" shows an incorrect phone number and the number listed is apparently coming from the SIM card. I have googled around and it seems that I need to get my carrier to change this at a local store. It makes sense that there's a disconnect when imessage / messages app list my correct phone number and the phone doesn't report it's phone number correctly. Hopefully that's it, will know tomorrow.
