Buddy settings for Messages not "sticking"

I am having an issue in Messages in Yosemite where individual settings for Buddies do not "stick" after a restart of my computer. I've checked the box for each Buddy to "Always use this picture", and it keeps the setting for the day. But after I shut down my computer at work then restart the next day, the boxes are unchecked. Please see screen shot attached.

Hi,

If it is staying during a session (which might be "all day") but not after you close the app then it will be because you have lost the Read and Write Permissions to the place where that info is kept.

The "Card" you are showing is the one using the Buddies Menu after highlighting Buddy in a List.

The First Name, Last Name and Nickname write to the Contacts App.

Do this to check the Contacts app.

Open the Contacts App and go to Preferences.

In the Preferences Select Template.

Use the Add Field button to Add the Nickname field.

Then choose a card of one of your Buddies and Add a Nickname via the Contacts App > Edit button.

After closing the Contacts App does this Nickname appear on the Card when using the Buddies menu (like your Pic) ?

Does it "Stay" after closing down the Computer and restarting ?

Check it the other way as well.

Does it "Stick" if you add it in Messages via the "Card" you see in the Pic you posted ?

This should tell us if it is the Contacts App that stores this or whether Messages does.

Hmmm... I added nicknames in Contacts and it showed up in Messages. I then clicked "Always use this picture". After a full restart when going back into Messages and Contacts, the nicknames are still there and the "Always use this picture" is still checked. It fixed my problem.

So, just adding a nickname made the checkbox stay ticked. Not sure why... doesn't make sense, but it worked.

Thank you...

Hi,

No. What we sorted by doing this was the Read and Write permissions.

Changing one thing in the Contacts App changed the way it was written to the place it is saved which then changed the fact Messages needs to be able to as well.

You should find you can remove the Nick Name field from the Contact App > Preferences > Template (Those with them will keep them as iChat then Messages has always been able to add then separately) and the Pic will stay.
