I forgot my passcode to my ipod touch and I want to unlock it without losing everything, what do I do?

I had recently rediscovered my ipod touch and want to get back into it. But I forgot my passcode and still want to get into my ipod without losing all my photos and things. How do I do it?

If you previously synced to the computer then you may be able to recover use of the iPod without erasing the iPod by following the instructions here:

Disabled Recovery-must use syncing computer.

Otherwise you will have to place the iPod in Recovery mode to restore the iPod, That essentially erases the iPod.

You MAY be able to get some info from the restored iPod by:

Hi there breakiar32,

If you need to reset the passcode on your iPod Touch without losing your data, you should be able to use this section of the following article to help get that done. It will need to be restored, but syncing will create a backup from which iTunes will allow you to restore:

Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled

If you've synced your device with iTunes, you can restore your device.

  1. Connect the device to the computer you normally sync with.
  2. Open iTunes. If iTunes asks you to enter your passcode or asks you to allow access, try another computer that you've synced with. Or use recovery mode. (Click the link to be taken to the steps.)
  3. iTunes will automatically sync your device and create a backup. If it doesn't, sync the device with iTunes.
  4. After the sync is complete, restore your device.

  5. When iOS Setup Assistant asks to set up your device, choose "Restore from iTunes backup."
  6. Select your device in iTunes and choose the most recent backup.
