Cannot sync photos "iPhoto library is not yet available"

When syncing iPhone 5s to iMac running Yosemite and get the following error:

"iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone "iPhone" because your iPhoto library is not yet available. Please try again later."

This phone has been syncing with iPhoto for some time now. This is a new one to me.

Tried rebooting the phone and the desktop machine, same result.

Interestingly, in iTunes when selecting the "photos" page all I get is the spinning circle for the iPhone, the other selections, Summary, Apps, etc., all load fine.

The same situation is true for the iPad mini, the photo page never loads. I have not attempted to sync the iPad since this error appeared.

Anyone familiar with this error?

This mac has had the "iPod" cache folder deleted in past months to clear another sync error, but had been syncing fine since then.

iTunes version 12.1.050

Thanks!

Solution:

Rebuilt iPhoto database. Restarted iMac, rebooted phone. Photo tab in iTunes became available again after plugging in phone. Made selections of which albums to sync, clicked apply and the selections went away. Remade selections then Apply became available, clicked it and iTunes warned me it would replace existing photos on phone. Proceeded and then got error -50.

Rebooted the the phone once more and the next sync completed.

So far so good.

CookieDuster...

I am having the EXACT same issue but I am not very tech literate and the steps you went through sound like a foreign language at times. It scares me to do something like "rebuild" some element of my system as I have this horrible fear I will loose everything that includes 14 years of pictures. I am frustrated...but so far have not "lost" pictures, just cannot get them back on my phone.

Any additional hits or words of wisdom would be very helpful.

Thanks!

OK - take a nice deep breath. This is going to be easy.

First, make sure you have a backup - both of your computer and your phone. For the computer, use TimeMachine. For the Phone look at the Phone's summary page in iTunes. It will tell you when the last backup was.

Then follow the instructions in the Apple Suoort Document: iTunes: Unable to sync photos - Apple Support

You'll definitely want to do the bit about removing the iPod Cache.

Take things slowly, make sure you've got a backup and all will be fine.

If you haven't done so yet, make sure you have a good backup.

Launch iPhoto while holding down command and option keys.

You will be presented with a dialog box offering several options.

Select Rebuild Database.

Depending on how large your library is this may take some time. Be patient.

After it has completed I suggest rebooting both the computer and your iphone.

Then resync.

Good luck!

Nive been searching for days without finding a definitive answe. I now have one So I thought I'd update everyone else searching.

i Myself am having the experience with photos app rather than iPhoto.

after installing the new photos app and importing my library from aperture, which took some time. Photos seemed to finishe doing whatever it needed to do on the import. I could use photos, see my photos faces albums etc.

now if I go to iTunes I get the message the photos library is not yet available.

now I have a lot of photos, in the hundreds of thousands.

ive opened the activity monitor and see photos still has processes running. Even though the app does not say it's doing anything secretly in the background it's still processing the library. It's obvious now as all the while photos is open the cpu is running hard.

its currently been running all night and all day. I'm pretty sure I've still got a way to go.

so this is going to depend on how big your library is but in this case just let it do its thing, you should be able to hear the cpu running and see activity in the activity monitor. Once it's done( however long that maybe you will then be able to sync In iTunes.

I'm really getting sick of this problem, and nothing seems to work for me yet. I've tried every thing, deleting ipod cache folder, restoring my mac from a time machine, downgrading iTunes from 12.2 to 12.0, fixing the HD permissions, rebuilt database and fix permissions for iPhoto, made a new iPhoto database using "photo manager". And still the spinning wheel in photos section keeps spinning and I can't neither sync my photos nor deleting them from my iPhone on iOS 7.1.2 and iPad on iOS 8.1.3

my mac is on OS X 10.9.5, and my iPhoto is 9.5.1, and of course the iTunes is 12.2

any one can help please 😟

Ok, so I created a new account on my mac and set it as an administrator, and when I logged on to it and opened iTunes and connected my iPad and selected Photos... It appeared 😀. But when I go back to my original account it shows the spinning wheel again

So it seems that the problem is connected to my user account, but I don't know how to fix it

If anyone can help I'll be thankful

I have the same issue with the new Photos, not iPhoto. Checking Settings > iCloud, iCoud Photo Library is defaulted to Off. When I turn it On, I get this warning, "Syncing photos via iTunes is not supported when iCloud Photo Library is turned on. 6,396 photo will be removed." Pretty scary! I assume this means that all my photos will be resident in iCloud rather than iTunes?
