OK, Kaspersky gone. After the restart it should be a little better already.

I propose doing following now first:

SystemPreferences->Users&Groups->LoginItems remove all entries in the list with the minus sign underneath;

then restart.

Should a bit better again.

a. You seem to have used a keygenerator in the past and/or onetime have installed a non regular software (most of the time adobe software), but it looks as if all this is gone. Can you confirm that?

b. Did you ever download and install software from CNET, download.com, softonic or the like? (these sites manipulate the software installers to add adware or even malware)

c. Uninstall the Tuxera Macfuse.

Restart.

I will be back in about 6 hours from now and then we do the rest.

Feb 15, 2015 5:01 AM in response to Lexiepex

a. The keygnerator may be coming up because I work for an organization that gives bulk product keys for a Kaspersky and OpenVPN and other VPN software.

b. I think I have used these types of sites to get video converters/players.

c. When I click uninstall, it says "Removing MacFuse..." but it doesn't uninstall. I tried to uninstall it many times then I restarted and it was still there.

Feb 15, 2015 8:55 AM in response to joshuaoneseven

Back again.

a. mmmmm.

b. I think it would be a good idea to uninstall everything that you may have downloaded from these sites, then download AdwareMedic from thesafemac.com and run it, just to be sure, and then after that download what you need from the developer sites and install again. This is not urgent. But do it in this order.

c. Macfuse: in SystemPreferences open the Macfuse panel and click on the button "remove macfuse", this removes everything but the applet itself. Then CTL+clcik on the macfuse applet and choose "remove".

Going on:

* the Samsung software is better removed (Kies), this should remove all kexts of it in the System/Library.

* the ZTE software installment has the same result of having kexts in the System/Library. So you are better of without it.

* I suppose that the Eltima software is already gone, if so, we can remove the eltima kext also:

in Finder go to MacintoshHD->System->Library->Extensions (be very careful in this folder!!) and delete the ...eltima.Syncmate.. kext.

* the XXYYZZ USBmodem kext and Massstoragefilter kext I am not sure about what those do, but in principle you should not have any third party kexts in the System Library.

* uninstall fuspredownloader.

* uninstall usbswapper, syncmate, PPPmonitor,

* I am nor sure what rapiback is.

* In Finder click the GO menu while holding the Alt(option) key and choose Library, in there open the LaunchAgents folder and delete the ...apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com... plist.

-----------

ofcourse you also followed the advice of dominic (just to be sure).

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The usual results of posting etrecheck output on this site without a full description of the problem are very poor.

The many "failed" or "killed" warnings that etrecheck sometimes spews are not a reason to reinstall the OS.

The better your description of the problem, the better the chance of a solution.

For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

Feb 16, 2015 5:01 PM in response to Lexiepex

Ok. I followed dominic's suggestions and yours about the adware. No disk issues. I think I reset the SMC, though I don't know how to tell if it worked. MacFuse is also gone. I didn't start removing the other things yet (Kies, etc.). Do you have a suggested uninstaller?

Also, let me clarify how big a problem this is. The computer is very slow all the time. If I click on a file, it takes a long time to open and I get the "spinning wheel of death" for almost every action including scrolling in a Word doc, clicking the apple menu, as I'm typing this, etc. It never freezes, it just stalls for a a number of seconds then continues, so I sometimes need to wait a little while for the word I just typed to pop up on the screen before I can continue typing.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.

Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.

Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

* the Samsung software is better removed (Kies), this should remove all kexts of it in the System/Library. REMOVED

* the ZTE software installment has the same result of having kexts in the System/Library. So you are better of without it. I THINK THIS WAS ONE OF TWO USB INTERNET STICK APPLICATIONS. I REMOVED BOTH OF THEM. CHECK THE EtreCheck REPORT BELOW TO SEE IF THAT WORKED.

* I suppose that the Eltima software is already gone, if so, we can remove the eltima kext also:

in Finder go to MacintoshHD->System->Library->Extensions (be very careful in this folder!!) and delete the ...eltima.Syncmate.. kext. I REMOVED THIS. THE NAME WAS DIFFERENT THAN THAT, BUT IT WAS THE ONLY ELTIMA KEXT FILE.

* the XXYYZZ USBmodem kext and Massstoragefilter kext I am not sure about what those do, but in principle you should not have any third party kexts in the System Library. I COULDN'T FIND THIS, BUT IT MAY HAVE BEEN PART OF ONE OF THE USB INTERNET APPLICATIONS THAT I REMOVED.

* uninstall fuspredownloader. CAN'T FIND THIS.

* uninstall usbswapper, syncmate, PPPmonitor, CAN'T FIND THESE.

* I am nor sure what rapiback is. CAN'T FIND THIS.

* In Finder click the GO menu while holding the Alt(option) key and choose Library, in there open the LaunchAgents folder and delete the ...apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-[...]@me.com... plist. DELETED.

I ALREADY VERIFIED THE DISK BEFORE I DID THE ABOVE. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THAT. HERE IS THE NEW EtreCheck REPORT:

EtreCheck version: 2.1.8 (121)
