iTunes error (13008)

I've been using iTunes from an external hard drive for the past 3 years and have had little to no problems until now. I updated to version 12.1 and have received error 13008 twice within a week. The initial error happened as I was opening iTunes post the update. iTunes subsequently marked my library as "damaged" and wouldn't allow me to access it. After searching endlessly online for a solution I decided to bite the bullet and rebuild my library from scratch. Since my library is rather large, the rebuilding process took more than 15 hours, on a mid 2013 MB Air. Yesterday evening before going to sleep I shut down my machine and charged it as I typically do. This morning I got up to listen to a little music and to do a little more work on my iTunes (ratings, playlist, etc) and receive error 13008 again! The library that was created yesterday has once again been marked "damaged" and is inaccessible. Can someone PLEASE help me with this, I can not go through this process again! ?!

Hi I just experienced the same error, trying to create an itunes library on an external hard drive, but seem to found a work around

I just created a new itunes library on the internal hard drive, after that, just copy that over to the external hard drive, then hold "option" while clicking itunes so you can select an existing itunes library, then select the one you copied over to the external hard drive, its working now.

Hope it helps!

iTunes error 13008 - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1802034?answerId=8530461022#8530461022 - Move:

iTunes Library Extras.itdb

iTunes Library Genius.itdb

iTunes Library Genius.itdb-journal

files to a temporary folder (for later deletion). They may be corrupt. iTunes will re-create them.

Thanks @Limnos I found the article you posted prior to making this post. I tried this method multiple times before rebuilding my initial library, unfortunately it didn't work. I've discussed this issue with Apple customer support and they've been trying to blame the error on my content. However, my content worked fine prior to the update to 12.1 so their hypothesis is flawed. With that said they have been no help what so ever. The only solution that has been presented so far was rebuilding my library again but doing it in sections to "find the flawed media." I'm not quite understanding how the "flawed media" had no effect on the previous version of iTunes!!! From my perspective this whole situation is BS!

I have the same error. But for my the thing was different. I was trying to create another Music Library, so i open Itunes and create a new library, this time on a USB Hard Disk (ExFat Format) my original library is on my Hard drive and is quite big (20 gigas). The new library couldn't be created and from that moment i got: Unkonw error 13008.

I delete the files mentioned above, got the same message error, reinstalled Itunes, same error message and finale restore the files from Time Machine and guess what: same error message. And if the answer from Apple is: "flawed media" the answer ....😝
