mac 10.6.3 won't restart after software update

HEY PEOPLE! REMEMBER TO QUIT YOUR INTERNET BROWSER WHEN YOU RESTART! (that's what helped me)

Just a quick note: you may find that the number of updates available increases after the initial OS update. after starting with 10.6.3 i ran the OS update, then the Apple software installer update individually, and then all the others (8 additional) at once and it seems to have worked out fine

Had the same issue right now. But figured out how to solve it.

After installing the other updates, i began with the combo-update of osx which needs a restart. But instead of clicking restart now, i clicked on "not now" and did a manual restart via the apple-menu.

The systems logs out and says that there are updates ready for installation. And when i click on "restart and update" it works without any problems.

going to software update / show details and unchecking all the other updates got my macbook to restart and install 10.6.8 properly! Appreciate your help and grateful that OP created this forum to help others having the same problem.
