Would Mac mini with 8GB of RAM feel comfortable 3 years from now?

The 8GB ram should be good but I would personally bump up the processor to the next model (presuming that you are getting the base model) as it has basically the same processor as a MacBook Air which won't hold up as well.

If you can afford it, get 16GB RAM now, because you cannot upgrade it

in the new Minis. Reason I say that is that Photoshop can be a real RAM hog.

Plus, you will likely at some point be doing all three things you mention at the same time.

BTW, the model he is pricing is not the base model, it is the mid model. Base model is $499.

I would opt for the 16 GB.

8GB is likely enough but in the future with apps updates it may not be enough for snappy operation.

Maybe you can find a refurbished or used late 2012 model. Much easier to upgrade.

In 2012 I replaced my 2 GB 2007 Macbook with a 4GB 2012 Mini. I was quite please with the performance improvement. However it still took a while to edit videos. So, when RAM prices dropped I replaced the 4GB with 16 GB. Most memory intensive tasks now run more than 4 times faster.

If you are only reading web pages, doing E-Mail, and editing simple documents, 8GB is more than adequate. If you are editing photos or videos or working on multiple large spreadsheets at the same time, then the $200 is a cheap investment. If you value your time at only $10/hour and save 20 hours of time or frustration, it has paid for itself.
