This may be a basic question. I am wondering what the symbol is of an "i" with a circle around it. It is by all of the wi-fi
networks around me, under the wi-fi connection area of my iPhone. Thank you.

It stands for "Information" and it's used throughout iOS in various places, not just under Wi-Fi.
